Bremen has become a centre for astronomy due to Wilhelm Olbers and the European astronomers of his day. The present day diversity within Bremen’s scientific community, with colleges, research establishments and the important aerospace industry is due, not least, to this 200 year tradition. The accolade of City of Science 2005 was the prelude to a development that will make science accessible to all those interested. Together with projects in other German cities, like an Astro Walk Kassel, and in other European cities like an Astro Walk Tartu (Estonia), the Astro Walk Bremen, a city tour on the trail of European astronomers, has the aim of connecting the history of astronomy to present day activities. I wish all those who go on the Astro Walk Bremen, much enjoyment and an interesting time on your journey of discovery.
Carsten Sieling, Mayor, President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of BremenTogether with projects in other German cities, such as the Astro Walk Kassel, and in other European cities such as the Astro Walk Istanbul (Turkey), the Astro Walk Bremen, a city tour on the trail of European astronomers, has the aim of connecting the history of astronomy to present day activities in science and culture.
